Robustness of a parsimonious subsurface drainage model at the French national scale

Abstract. Drainage systems are currently implemented on agricultural plots subjected to temporary or permanent waterlogging issues. Drained account for 9 % of all arable soils in France. As such, the need accurate hydrological modeling is crucial, especially an unstable future context affected by climate change. The aim this paper assess capacity SIDRA-RU drainage model represent variability pedoclimatic conditions within French metropolitan areas and demonstrate utility as a long-term management tool. initially calibrated using KGE? criterion objective function (OF) large unique database encompassing 22 spread across France classified according three main soil textures (silty, silty–clay, clayey). performance evaluated monitoring both set calibration values quality simulations each plot with respect high low discharges, well annual drained water balance. Next, temporal robustness assessed conducting, selected plots, split-sample test capable satisfying data requirements. Results show that accurately simulates discharge, silty soils. clayey slightly weaker than yet remains acceptable. Similarly, indicates temporally robust textures. Consequently, closely replicates diversity could be used its potential.
